An Uber driver is getting ready for the WSOP $10,000 No-Limit Hold’em Main Event where he’ll play with some professional poker players, including Canadian Daniel Negreanu.
Ben Myers, who devotes his time to poker, is waiting for the event. He expressed that he felt ready as he applied everything he knew to his game. Myers hopes this would give him some edge in the main event.
The 48-year-old Uber driver had to wait 12 years for this day as he had played satellites to become eligible for two $1,500 events in 2007, but he failed to qualify.
However, this didn’t discourage him, with the player saying that the layoff happened for a reason.
Today, Myers lives in Florida, the state where poker rooms are in abundance which has helped him reconnect with the game. He said that there was some “amazing” talent in the state. Myers added that he was “fortunate” to take lessons from American poker player Michael Laake.
Ben reflected on people who he respected in the industry, singling out Daniel Negreanu whom he called his “poker hero,” praising his ability to read people.
Myers qualified for the tournament during SKC Poker Room where he finished second. Looking back on the poker league, he said that it was “different” than any other tournament because it was paramount for players to reach the final table each week rather than win.
