Texas Lottery announced Wednesday that a Cedar Park resident won a $227 million Mega Millions jackpot.
On Tuesday, the state Lottery held the Mega Millions drawing, with the lucky numbers being 6-14-24-42-26 and Mega Ball 9.
“We look forward to meeting Texas’ newest millionaire and we are excited to have another Mega Millions jackpot winner here in Texas,” said Gary Grief, executive director of the Texas Lottery.
“If you have the winning ticket, we encourage you to sign the ticket, put it in a safe place, seek financial and legal advice, and call the Texas Lottery before coming to Austin to claim the prize,” he added.
The lucky winner, who is yet to come forward, selected the cash option when purchasing the $2 ticket at Lakeline Express Mart. The claimant will receive more than $157 million, and the retailer will get $1 million for selling the winning ticket.
Lottery officials have said that the resident has 180 days to get the prize. When claimed, this will be the largest payout a Texas Lottery player has ever received.
After the win, the prize has been reset to $40 million.
To compete for Mega Millions jackpot, players opt for five numbers and one Mega Ball number. The person who matches all numbers hits the jackpot.
