One lawsuit filed by a Missouri prosecuting attorney might bring the use of video gaming machines to a halt.

Platte County Prosecuting Attorney Eric Zahnd questioned the legality of the machines by submitting a lawsuit against Integrity Gaming LLC, a company that installed a number of them in convenience stores.

Zahnd explained that the devices were illegal according to the Missouri law. He concluded that the court would have the last say.

Video gambling machines function similarly to slots. Gamblers are to add money, opt for a game, and wait for the outcome. Any winnings are paid out by store cashiers.

In contrast, Integrity Gaming explained that the devices should not be perceived as gambling machines because their outcomes are predetermined.

The case will be brought in the court in December.
