First Iowa Sports Wagering Revenue Figures Revealed

The first month of Iowa legal sports betting produced $8.5 million in gambling revenue in August.

Iowa-based casinos began accepting sports bets on August 15, following Governor Kim Reynolds’ legalization of the gambling activity.

The Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission (IRGC) released a revenue report Friday, revealing that sports betting brought in $8.5 million in August. The state generated around $146,000 in tax revenue.

Among 13 sportsbooks in Iowa, Prairie Meadows Racetrack & Casino made the most profit, producing $3.4 million in sports handle. The casino paid out around $2.9 million to winners.
