David Benefield Becomes £25K Short Deck Ante-Only Champion
Texas native David Benefield triumphed over 106 participants at the Triton Poker Super High Roller Series on Tuesday, securing a $789,707 payout.
Benefield’s participation in the tournament marked his first win in a live cash game since receiving $13,188 (€11,695) in the European Poker Tour Barcelona €10,300 High Roller in 2016.
“I’m delighted,” said Benefield, also known as “Raptor.” “It’s an emotional roller coaster, but that’s short deck. You just keep going all in. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose.”
The 33-year-old professional poker player scored his first major live title at the £25,000 Short Deck Ante-Only event.
He defeated Cheok Leng Cheong from Macau at the final table and got the winner’s trophy. The runner-up received $540,645 (£445,000).
Benefield began his professional career at the 38th World Series of Poker in 2007 where he took the 76th place and a $2,824 payout. Since then his net worth has been valued at more than $4 million.
