Planet 7 Casino: A Ten-Year-Old Aiming to Develop
Established in 2009, Planet 7 Casino used its 10 years of existence to develop a reputation of an establishment disrespectful to its customers. In tone with its sister casinos, Planet 7 has tons of online complaints to its name — literally in the thousands.
An ocean of players had trouble with extremely slow payments, with amounts as low as $100 taking over a month to be received. In the last few years, however, the casino decided to address this issue and work on complaints that piled up over the years. Now, you’ll find the majority of them resolved, or at least worked on.
They’ve upgraded their customer service to a level where they actually care about customer concerns. Nevertheless, this doesn’t change the fact that there are thousands of complaints circulating on the Internet, as well as the fact that new ones keep popping up.
The casino provides a list of restricted countries in a PDF file. Some of the countries are outright banned, while many others can join the casino, but are unable to claim promotional offers. Coming as a rarity these days, the casino accepts players from Australia and the United States (excluding residents of Maryland and New York).
As for the website itself, it’s available only in English. They’ve settled for a pretty standard “online casino website” design. With red and yellow as dominant colors, when you enter the home page you won’t see anything out of ordinary — the first thing that grabs your attention is the signup bonus code. After that, there’s a list of games (sadly, they didn’t bother with a search bar, which would take them less than a minute to add).
On the home page, you’ll be able to access all the pages of interest, such as the Terms and Conditions, About Us, Banking, etc. While the navigation of the website cannot be faulted (if we disregard a couple of shortcomings they can work on), transparency is something they should improve.
Transparency
If you take a closer look at the website, you’ll notice that there are some discrepancies in the information provided and what the reality is. For example, they state you can use services of both Neteller and Skrill to make deposits and/or request withdrawals. However, this is not the case anymore. Likewise, you first need to make an account to actually find out that the Players Reward Card is an option, which they haven’t added to the Banking section.
Another thing that causes confusion is the selection of games. If you go through all the different sections of the website, you’ll notice that at some places, they mention up to 220 games. On other pages, they claim to have ‘over 150 games’ in their library. None of the above is correct, as they currently have 147 games. It seems they forgot (or simply didn’t care) to update the information which has changed over time.
Licensing
Nowhere on their website will you be able to find any information regarding their license. Even if you contact customer support, it won’t do you much good — they won’t disclose which license they own. Nonetheless, we’ve done some digging and found out that the casino’s operations fall under the jurisdiction of Costa Rica.
The Costa Rican licensing commission is of a poor standard. The license they give out is an ordinary working license, it doesn’t come with restrictions and regulations specific to gambling. As such, the jurisdictional body doesn’t partake in mediation in disputes between players and casinos. If players feel they’ve been wronged by the casino, the reality is, there’s no-one to turn to. Casinos like Planet 7 use the fact that the Costa Rica license lets you go about your business without having to answer to a government superior.
Lastly, the interesting thing about their licensing is that they offer their services to players from the United Kingdom. To be legally able to do so, you need to possess a license from the United Kingdom Gambling Commission, which they don’t have. Perhaps this doesn’t concern you if you’re not from the UK, but it’s another telltale sign of this casino’s poor practices.
Ace Revenue Group
This casino, along with several others, belongs to the Ace Revenue Group. This ownership group, also known as Virtual Casino Group, has a long track record of running blacklisted casinos. Their casinos implemented several delaying tactics when it came to transferring players’ funds. They would repeatedly ask for the same identification documents, and often fabricate reasons why they declined payments. Many players faced issues of being told they breached bonus conditions, alongside being falsely accused of using multiple accounts.
There’s an extreme example you can find online, in which a player went to their offices in Costa Rica after months of dispute over a lack of payment. There, the customer faced a hostile environment. Allegedly, employees physically attacked them and went as far as to threaten them with death, before forcibly throwing the player out.
Even before they ventured into the world of online gambling, the owner of this group had a run-in with the law. In 1997, they had to serve a prison sentence for attempted defrauding of residential owners out of their properties.
