A Renton man visited a Washington casino 38 times in a span of 40 days, cheating it out of $38,335, reports Washington news outlet The Herald.

Frederick Nolan was defrauding Mountlake Terrace-based Crazy Moose Casino between December 9, 2018, and January 18, 2019.

“Our suspect visited the casino almost daily for a six week period. He was careful, though. We reviewed and it looks like he never went to the same dealer more than about twice in a night,” said Heather Songer of the Washington State Gambling Commission.

On the night he was caught, casino staff observed Nolan wagering on three different betting spots to receive three hands of cards. He made it a point to distract dealers and, through sleight of hand, Nolan successfully switched cards from one spot to another.

Songer explained that the Washington resident wanted “to give himself guaranteed winning hands with large payouts.”

Surveillance cameras on the premises recorded the incident which led to the Snohomish County Prosecutor’s Office charging Nolan with first-degree theft and second-degree cheating. Prosecutors allege that he cheated the casino out of $38,335.

On Monday, Nolan received a summons directing him to appear in the Snohomish County Superior Court on September 30.

He could face up to ten years of imprisonment.
