Sunset Station, a casino resort located in Henderson and operated by Station Casinos, will be represented by a union, reports the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
The Thursday election, overseen by the National Labor Relations Board, saw 437 Sunset Station workers voting for or against representation by the Culinary and Bartenders unions. A spokesperson for the former stated that 83% of them opted for unionization.
Following the approval, 600 workers will join the Culinary Union and Bartenders Union Local 165.
In 1997, Sunset Station opened for business in Henderson, a city in the vicinity of Las Vegas. Today, the venue includes 448 hotel rooms and a casino that stretches across 162,000 square feet.
In her reflection on the vote, Geoconda Argüello-Kline, Secretary-Treasurer and leader of the Culinary Union, pointed out that this was the fifth time Station Casinos employees decided for a union, aiming at having good benefits and fair wages. She called on this gambling operator to start preparing a fair contract.
Previously, Boulder Station, Green Valley Ranch, Palms, and Palace Station workers all voted to become members of the same unions.
The Culinary and Station Casinos have been engaged in a court battle due to allegations that the operator has been involved in unfair working practices, with appeals still to be resolved.
