The New York State Gaming Commission voted in favor of rules which would permit in-person sports betting at four casinos. Mobile wagering might be up for debate next week.
On June 10, four upstate casinos were given the green light to offer sports gambling: Del Lago Resort & Casino, Resorts World Catskills, Tioga Downs, and Rivers Casino & Resort Schenectady. Wagering will commence at these venues once they obtain licenses.
If the legislation doesn’t undergo any significant changes, then integrity fees will be approved by a state for the first time, with gambling operators required to set aside 0.2% of total bets for major sports leagues.
The legislative session will end on June 19, and whether the mobile wagering bill will be discussed remains to be seen.
NY Governor Andrew Cuomo has made it clear that the state constitution would need to be amended for this bill, which would require New York to hold a favorable referendum.
