A two pair hand of a 9 and 7 brought victory to Simon Brändström on Sunday in the 2019 WPT UK Main Event, securing $330,000 and a third title of the year.
In a career spanning more than a decade, the Swede became the first player to win both the WPTDeepStacks Barcelona and the WPT Main Event. The best payout Brändström received was in the European Poker Tour Barcelona, where he earned $1.4 million.
“This feels surreal,” said Brändström after his win. “It feels like it shouldn’t be possible to have back-to-back wins, and I don’t feel like I am worth it,” he added.
The 37-year-old was the chip lead when the final day began, going against the likes of Maria Lampropulos, the 2018 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure winner, and British veteran Paul Jackson. Both players secured a total of $134,500.
The 2019 World Poker Tour United Kingdom $3,300 buy-in No-Limit Hold’em Main Event attracted more than 600 players, generating a $2,007,900 prize pool.
