Mobile sports arrived in Oregon on Wednesday evening, with officials claiming that Scoreboard gives off an impression of a “Las Vegas” sportsbook.
Oregon’s first sportsbook opened at Chinook Winds Casino Resort on August 27. Like the casino resort, the Oregon Lottery (OL) also planned to launch the app before the start of the football season, but it delayed the release to iron out last-minute details.
“Scoreboard acts just exactly like a sportsbook that you would find in Las Vegas,” said Chuck Baumann, senior public affairs officer for the OL.
Available on desktop, Android, and iOS devices, Scoreboard has a $250,000 deposit limit with the OL reserving the right to impose a restriction on the bet amount depending on the league and odds.
The app relies on geolocation services to ensure all bets are placed within the state while being unavailable on tribal lands. Gamblers don’t need to be Oregon residents to use Scoreboard, but they have to be within state’s borders to place a bet.
The OL projected a $5 million revenue from the app in the first year, but the figure could prove to be lower what with the late release of the app.
Baumann says that it is “difficult” to determine whether the OL will face any revenue loss.
“As we are only two months into our fiscal year, we are hopeful that the revenue projections will hold true,” he added.
