DraftKings sports bettors and fans of the Indianapolis Colts football team had Sunday a shared reason to raise a glass what with the Colts’ victory over the Chiefs, which also led to a $300, 000 payout.
Mobile sports gambling arrived in Indiana on October 3 — just days ahead of an NFL game between the Indianapolis Colts and the Kansas City Chiefs. DraftKings and Rush Street Interactive were first in the state to welcome sports bettors.
In the days leading up to the match, DraftKings increased the odds for Colts win from 4–1 to 10–1 — a move DraftKings Head of Sportsbook Digital Jamie Shea explained as their way of saying to Indiana residents “Hey, we appreciate you. We want to give you a little something extra.”
Shea revealed that 38% of players took advantage of the odds boost, receiving a combined total of more than $300, 000. She also disclosed that DraftKings tried to simplify sports betting for first-timers by removing terms such as “money line” and “points spread.”
Sunday football game saw the Colts win 19 to 13, resulting in the Chiefs’ first loss of the NFL season.
