Casinos and lottery in Maryland generated more than $1.3 billion in taxes in the 2019 fiscal year, marking a growth compared to 2018.
In the 2018 fiscal year, the state received more than $1.2 billion in taxes from gambling, with lottery generating $576.6 million and casinos contributing $676.9 million.
The Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Agency released a report Monday, showing that casinos and lottery brought in more than $1.3 billion in taxes — a $60 million increase compared to the previous fiscal year.
The six casinos operating in Maryland contributed $717.5 million to the state, whereas the lottery directed $593.1 million, leading to a 4.7% increase.
Gross gaming revenue produced by the casinos amounted to $1.76 billion, an $81.4 million increase when compared to the 2018 fiscal year.
In contrast, lottery sales amounted to less than $2.2 billion. The 2018-2019 fiscal year also saw more lottery winners who received $1.3 billion in prizes.
Every month 30% of the state’s gambling revenue goes to public health, education, and the environment.
