An Australian poker player triumphed in the World Series of Poker Europe (WSOPE) on Friday, winning the €2,500 Short Deck event.
In a career spanning a decade, Kahle Burns has grossed over $6 million in total live earnings, participating in more than 50 events. The first WSOPE title Burns won on October 21, taking home over $600,000.
The 30-year-old secured more than $112,000 at the €2,500 Short Deck event, which lasted for 13 hours. Burns described the week to WSOP reporters as a “whirlwind.”
“Two bracelets in a week. It’s crazy. Lucky enough to win one live tournament in a week; now I’ve won two in a week; it’s quite fortunate,” he added.
At the final table, he went head-to-head against German Manig Loeser, beating him in only two hands. The German’s hand consisted of K-J of different suits, while the Australian had A-J of hearts. Burns triumphed with a two pair when the board showed A-Q-7-9-7.
Among the field of 179 entries, Burns had some of the big names in the poker world for his opponents, including American Phil Ivey and Canadian Daniel Negreanu. Negreanu didn’t win any money, while Ivey took home $5,803.
