Iowans spent four times more on sports betting in September than they did in August, wagering almost $39 million, reports the Iowa Racing & Gaming Commission (IRGC).
September marked the first full month of sports betting in Iowa following wagering legalization on August 15. In the first two weeks of operation, sportsbooks took in $8.6 million.
The IRGC revealed on Thursday that the state’s fifteen operational sportsbooks accepted $38.5 million on sports bets, collecting $4.9 million in revenue. Patrons placed more than half of wagers online, with the internet handle amounting to $21.8 million.
Iowa collected $334,553 in taxes.
