The Homewood village board has given the green light for Wind Creek Hospitality to embark on a groundbreaking venture, paving the way for the development of a state-of-the-art gambling facility valued at a staggering $275 million in the suburbs of Chicago, according to a report by the local news outlet NBC Chicago.
This decision comes in the wake of the gaming expansion bill passed in July, granting approval for the establishment of five regional casinos in the Chicago suburbs. Wind Creek Hospitality is vying to set up its casino nestled between East Hazel Crest and Homewood, contributing to the burgeoning gaming landscape in the region.
Brent Pinkston, the Chief Operating Officer of Wind Creek Hospitality, expressed confidence in the project, stating, “Wind Creek Hospitality has a proven track record of success in developing high-quality and successful casino and entertainment projects, and we’re excited about the opportunity to bring one to Illinois.”
However, obtaining approval from Homewood is merely the initial hurdle for the gambling operator. The proposed property spans the East Hazel-Homewood border, necessitating a dual approval process. Subsequently, on Wednesday evening, officials from East Hazel are scheduled to cast their votes on the project. Should the new casino garner their approval, the ultimate fate of the gambling facility will rest in the hands of the Illinois Gaming Board.
Looking ahead, Wind Creek Hospitality envisions the creation of a sprawling 64,000-square-foot casino complex. This multifaceted establishment is set to feature not only a premier gaming space but also an expansive entertainment venue and a variety of dining areas, promising a comprehensive and immersive experience for patrons. As the wheels of progress turn, the prospect of this ambitious venture is poised to reshape the entertainment landscape in the Chicago suburbs.
