Technology giant Google continues to amend its gambling policy, expanding Tuesday the list of states where companies can run advertisements aimed at sports bettors.
With the Supreme Court striking down the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act of 1992, Google became lenient towards online gambling ads, permitting state-licensed operators to advertise sports betting in New Jersey, Nevada, and West Virginia in June and August.
On Tuesday, Google updated its Gambling and Games Policy, revealing it would also make sports betting ads available in Iowa, Indiana, Pennsylvania, Montana, and Rhode Island, with advertisers having to apply for certification.
Gaming operators will promote sports betting content via Google Display Network, Google Ads, AdMob, and YouTube while ensuring they are not advertising online casino games or targeting underage gamblers.
The multinational technology company is believed to be taking a step further in the gambling market.
Online news outlet EGR claims that Google aims at lifting the online casino advertising ban by the first quarter of 2020, but the technology giant won’t be “putting itself out there as a gambling company,” explained Google Industry Head of Financial Trading and Egaming Chris Harrison in April.
