In August, the initiation of legal sports betting in Iowa resulted in $8.5 million in gambling revenue. Iowa-based casinos, authorized to accept sports bets from August 15 onwards due to Governor Kim Reynolds’ approval, contributed to this revenue. The Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission (IRGC) disclosed the financial outcomes on Friday, indicating that sports betting accounted for the $8.5 million, generating approximately $146, 000 in tax revenue for the state.

Prairie Meadows Racetrack & Casino emerged as the most profitable among the 13 sportsbooks in Iowa, accumulating a sports handle of $3.4 million. The casino distributed approximately $2.9 million in winnings to bettors.
