Las Vegas patrons might sit in front of a slot machine with inbuilt facial recognition technology in the next six to nine months, reports Nevada news outlet KSNV.
On October 8, casino games innovator Konami Gaming revealed that it would use the Global Gaming Expo (G2E) to showcase a number of innovations, including an addition to its casino management system SYNKROS™ — SYNK Vision™ facial recognition technology.
Konami V.P. Jay Bertsch explains that patrons won’t need to worry anymore about their players cards or missing out on loyalty points.
“They come into the casino to enjoy their time, sit down; they don’t need to worry about a card or some other electronic device. They’re able to experience the machine by just sitting down,” he added.
Described as a “cardless” solution, SYNK Vision will use a small camera on slot machines to “recognize” gamblers once their photos have been registered at a casino.
Bertsch believes that facial recognition technology can enhance casino security what with an opportunity to identify “suspicious activity” and banned patrons.
