Sports wagering has become official in Arkansas, with Oaklawn Racing and Casino Resort being the first venue to offer gambling activities in the state.
Last month, the Arkansas Racing Commission (ARC) gave the green light to the casino resort to start accepting wagers from July 1.
General Manager Wayne Smith marked the permission for legal sports wagering by placing the first bet at Race & Sports Book on Monday. He expressed that they were “excited” to introduce sports betting in Hot Springs.
Visitors can choose to bet on different leagues, including the NCAA and NFL, while making use of different types of wagering, such as proposition bets, parlays, in-game betting, and future wagering.
In November of last year, a statewide referendum was held with residents approving Amendment 100 to the Arkansas Constitution, permitting the ARC to issue four licenses to operators to open casinos in Southland, Jefferson County, Oaklawn, and Pope County, while authorizing sportsbooks as well.
