DraftKings Arrives in Pennsylvania

November 04, 2019

Pennsylvania has welcomed the sixth mobile sportsbook, with bookmaker DraftKings launching its digital betting operation in the state.

DraftKings partnered with Penn National Gaming in July, agreeing to render its services to the Meadows Racetrack & Casino. The gambling venue opened a retail sportsbook on October 10, waiting for the bookmaker to receive regulatory approval to tap into the state’s online betting market. DraftKings received a sports wagering license from the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) on October 30.

Today, DraftKings will soft-launch its digital product, undergoing a test period supervised by the PGCB. The bookie will get the green light to officially launch its wagering operation in two days if the trial period goes according to the plan.

Pennsylvania marks the fourth state where DraftKings has a digital presence after going live in New Jersey, Indiana, and West Virginia.

In the Keystone State, DraftKings will go against its long-time rival — FanDuel — which expanded in the state in August. Ever since then, FanDuel has become the number one online betting provider in Pennsylvania, taking in over 81% of all bets in September.

The news about DraftKings going live in Pennsylvania came just days after it was revealed that the Stars Group would host the state’s first online poker room at PokerStars on November 4.
