Meadows Casino to Launch Sports Betting

October 03, 2019

The Meadows Racetrack & Casino will open the tenth Pennsylvania sportsbook after receiving a license on Wednesday from the state’s Gaming Control Board (PGCB).

On July 3, Penn National Gaming (PNG)-operated venue applied for a $10 million sports betting license — eight months after the first Pennsylvania sportsbooks came into operation. To prepare, the casino launched a $14 million renovation.

“It’s a fantastic day for the Meadows Casino, our team members, guests and Washington County,” said Tony Frabbiele, vice president and general manager of the Meadows.

“We are excited to bring this new amenity to the Meadows and are looking forward to the thrill and excitement of sports wagering.”

Penn Sports Interactive, a subsidiary of PNG, will run the retail sportsbook, which is set to hold an official opening ceremony on October 10.

DraftKings will power the Meadows’ digital sportsbook, according to a sportsbook deal the bookmaker inked with PNG in July.

The bookie is expected to receive an interactive sports wagering license on October 30 at a meeting with the gambling commission representatives.

Days before the Meadows got the license, its local competitor Rivers Casino opened a new $5 million sportsbook. Beforehand, Rivers operated a temporary facility from December 2018 to September, which has processed more than $90 million in sports handle.

The Meadows might try to attract gamblers by providing amenities that Rivers doesn’t, including free parking that, on a game day, its competitor charges $60.
